Part of the Community at MEbig
It’s been a heart-warming week here at MEbig, where we’ve been learning about themes of community, diversity and belonging. The children were excited to welcome special visitors into the nursery – family members who came to share stories, songs and books. We spoke about the people who help us in our local area, and crafted collages to represent different emergency services and public transport vehicles. Our little learners have been thinking about similarities and differences, with activities designed to explore what makes each of us special. To mark Black History Month, they made beautiful handprint murals representing different skin tones, to show that we’re all part of a community. We’ve also talked about how art and music styles come from different cultures and how they bring people together. The children loved creating expressive self-portraits inspired by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, a Black American artist who explored themes of identity using vibrant colours and crown symbols. And, we’ll continue to celebrate the contributions of Black people in our communities throughout history, all year round. Well done, MEbig!
